NO MORE PRIVATE DIAMOND MINERS IN ZIMBABWE

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Feb. 22 (UPI) — Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe on Monday ordered the expulsion of eight foreign diamond mining companies and turned over all mining operations to the newly formed, government-run Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Co.

Several companies abandoned their equipment, including: Anjin Investments Ltd., the Diamond Mining Co., Jinan Mining Ltd., Kusena Diamonds, Marange Resources Ltd. and Mbada Diamonds. These organizations were invited to nationalize their assets but they chose to stay as private entities and give up whatever little political capital was built up.
“Since they no longer hold any mining titles, these companies were notified this morning to cease all mining with immediate effect,” Zimbabwe Mines Minister Walter Chidakwa said.
Zimbabwe ranked ninth in total diamond output in the world with 4.7 million carats in 2014, according to the fourth annual report on the global diamond industry prepared by the Antwerp World Diamond Centre and Bain & Co. Last year, Zimbabwe’s production fell by 1.6 million carats and the government received $23 million in royalties and other fees from diamond mines, down from $84 million in 2014.

It’s about time Africans took control of their resources to further the wealth of their land. The awakening is happening globally, and it’s a beautiful movement.

FRANCE LEADS THE WAY AGAINST WASTING FOOD WITH A MANDATORY DONATE PROGRAM

IN FRANCE, if a supermarket throws out or destroys unused food its operators could face fines of €75,000 or two years in jail. Instead the food must be donated to charities or else used for animal feed. According to The Guardian, “the law follows a grassroots campaign in France by shoppers, anti-poverty campaigners and those opposed to food waste. The campaign, which led to a petition, was started by the councillor Arash Derambarsh.” As of Wednesday the practice of throwing out unspoiled food has to stop. All grocery stores with a footprint larger than 4305 square feet will need to sign contracts with charities or face the penalties. This same law will also introduce food education programs for schools and businesses.

-Globally, over 800 million go hungry.

-Globally, we waste 1/3 food produced.

-In the US, one in four Americans struggle to buy food.

-In the US, over 30% — around $160 billion worth — of food is wasted by grocery stores and their customers.

-Food production is the single largest impact we have on nature.

-Farmers can’t sell half of what they produce because of strict supermarket standards.

As consumers we buy more than we need and regularly throw away perfectly good food because of overcautious date labels.

Restaurants overproduce to ensure everything on their menus is always on hand, and portion sizes are too large resulting in a lot of leftover waste.

If America along with other countries adopts this policy against food waste, we will solve the hunger problems we currently have. I’m not a huge fan of France, but I must say they are very forward thinking with this initiative.

ATRAZINE – THE SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN PESTICIDE LINKED TO HOMOSEXUALITY IN MEN…

We’ve heard it said before, there must be something in the water, and there most definitely is. This scientist in the video below, Tyrone Hayes, discovered the disturbing sex change in frogs after being exposed to the Herbacide Atrazine. This change occurred only in the male frogs, causing them to develop female organs and other disturbing characteristics.

I have always questioned the belief that people were born and on a genetic level were either inclined to be straight, gay or somewhere in-between. With that said, I hold no judgment and don’t believe it is anyone’s business what someone else’s sexual preference is.

I have come across information on a chemical called Atrazine. Marketed as a broad leaf grass and weed killer and approved by the FDA it seems harmless enough. After all, we all love a green lawn don’t we?

Why am I talking about landscaping and homosexuality?

It has been shown in numerous studies that (Triazine) Atrazine, an endocrine disrupter, induces hermaphroditism and over time complete feminization and chemical castration in frogs. All Atrazine exposed males in the control groups had greatly reduced testosterone levels and noticeable demasculinization. It has also been linked to breast cancer and is scientifically noted as a carcinogen, which has been banned in the European Union.

Atrazine is one of the most widely used pesticides in the world. It is also marketed as Triazine. Approximately 80 million pounds are applied annually in the United States alone, and Atrazine is the most common pesticide contaminant of ground and surface water.

I know I am making a leap here (no frog pun intended) but we, as humans, are exposed to pesticides such as Atrazine without knowing it and without our consent many times. This, and many other chemicals end up in our tap water, the water we shower and bathe in…
In 1991, the US EPA established a Maximum Contaminant Level (MCL) for atrazine in drinking water of 3 parts per billion. Industrial chemicals are not tested for safety directly on humans. EPA contaminant levels are established by investigating toxic doses in animals. Human and environmental health advocates criticize this approach for ignoring chronic low-dose and multi-chemical exposures.

If this chemical is powerful enough to change the actual sex of a frog and it is in water we are exposed to and drink, I have to ask what is it doing to us as humans?

I have wondered many times what is happening to our society, as so many men seem to be becoming more and more feminine, softer, and more and more are coming out as transgender or gay. I had assumed that this was their natural state and they were just coming to a place of self-acceptance. But what if it isn’t actually happening naturally at all? What if these feelings and physical changes are being chemically induced without their knowledge or consent? Their very DNA being changed through the water supply.

Why on earth would the FDA or our Government allow this chemical in the water when they have these studies and see the results despite other countries banning it?

I am going to guess that this plays right into Agenda 21 and the New World Order. Population control becomes easy if you cannot reproduce and are sterile but even easier if you are chemically altering the males to be attracted to males vs. females, as there is no reproduction possible at all in a homosexual relationship. 10 THINGS THEY DON’T WANT US TO KNOW ABOUT THE FLINT WATER CRISIS…

Activist Michael Moore has been very vocal about the Flint Water Crisis to the disadvantage of the political powers that be in Michigan. He has wasted no time exposing top officials – namely the Governor of Flint for his atrocious and deliberate crimes against humanity. This list created by Michael Moore not only exposes these devils, but is more than enough ammunition to have these people prosecuted for Domestic Terrorism. Here are ten things that you probably don’t know about this crisis because the media, having come to the story so late, can only process so much. But if you live in Flint or the State of Michigan as I do, you know all to well that what the greater public has been told only scratches the surface.

1. While the Children in Flint Were Given Poisoned Water to Drink, General Motors Was Given a Special Hookup to the Clean Water. A few months after Governor Snyder removed Flint from the clean fresh water we had been drinking for decades, the brass from General Motors went to him and complained that the Flint River water was causing their car parts to corrode when being washed on the assembly line. The Governor was appalled to hear that GM property was being damaged, so he jumped through a number of hoops and quietly spent $440,000 to hook GM back up to the Lake Huron water, while keeping the rest of Flint on the Flint River water. Which means that while the children in Flint were drinking lead-filled water, there was one — and only one — address in Flint that got clean water: the GM factory.

2. For Just $100 a Day, This Crisis Could’ve Been Prevented. Federal law requires that water systems which are sent through lead pipes must contain an additive that seals the lead into the pipe and prevents it from leaching into the water. Someone at the beginning suggested to the Governor that they add this anti-corrosive element to the water coming out of the Flint River. “How much would that cost?” came the question. “$100 a day for three months,” was the answer. I guess that was too much, so, in order to save $9,000, the state government said f*** it — and For Just $100 a Day, This Crisis Could’ve Been Prevented. 3. There’s More Than the Lead in Flint’s Water. In addition to exposing every child in the city of Flint to lead poisoning on a daily basis, there appears to be a number of other diseases we may be hearing about in the months ahead. The number of cases in Flint of Legionnaires Disease has increased tenfold since the switch to the river water. Eighty-seven people have come down with it, and at least ten have died. In the five years before the river water, not a single person in Flint had died of Legionnaires Disease. Doctors are now discovering that another half-dozen toxins are being found in the blood of Flint’s citizens, causing concern that there are other health catastrophes which may soon come to light.

4. People’s Homes in Flint Are Now Worth Nothing Because They Cant Be Sold. Would you buy a house in Flint right now? Who would? So every homeowner in Flint is stuck with a house that’s now worth nothing. That’s a total home value of $2.4 billion down the economic drain. People in Flint, one of the poorest cities in the U.S., don’t have much to their name, and for many their only asset is their home. So, in addition to being poisoned, they have now a net worth of zero. (And as for employment, who is going to move jobs or start a company in Flint under these conditions? No one.) Has Flint’s future just been flushed down that river?

5. While They Were Being Poisoned, They Were Also Being Bombed. Here’s a story which has received little or no coverage outside of Flint. During these two years of water contamination, residents in Flint have had to contend with a decision made by the Pentagon to use Flint for target practice. Literally. Actual unannounced military exercises – complete with live ammo and explosives – were conducted last year inside the city of Flint. The army decided to practice urban warfare on Flint, making use of the thousands of abandoned homes which they could drop bombs on. Streets with dilapidated homes had rocket-propelled grenades fired upon them. For weeks, an undisclosed number of army troops pretended Flint was Baghdad or Damascus and basically had at it. It sounded as if the city was under attack from an invading army or from terrorists. People were shocked this could be going on in their neighborhoods. Wait – did I say “people?” I meant, Flint people. As with the Governor, it was OK to abuse a community that held no political power or money to fight back. BOOM!

6. The Wife of the Governor’s Chief of Staff Is a Spokeswoman for Nestle, Michigan’s Largest Owner of Private Water Reserves. As Deep Throat told Woodward and Bernstein: “Follow the money.” Snyder’s chief of staff throughout the two years of Flint’s poisoning, Dennis Muchmore, was intimately involved in all the decisions regarding Flint. His wife is Deb Muchmore, who just happens to be the spokesperson in Michigan for the Nestle Company – the largest owner of private water sources in the State of Michigan. Nestle has been repeatedly sued in northern Michigan for the 200 gallons of fresh water per minute it sucks from out of the ground and bottles for sale as their Ice Mountain brand of bottled spring water. The Muchmores have a personal interest in seeing to it that Nestles grabs as much of Michigan’s clean water was possible – especially when cities like Flint in the future are going to need that Ice Mountain.

7. In Michigan, from Flint water, to Crime and Murder, to GM Ignition Switches, It’s a Culture of Death. It’s not just the water that was recklessly used to put people’s lives in jeopardy. There are many things that happen in Flint that would give one the impression that there is a low value placed on human life. Flint has one of the worst murder and crime rates in the country. Just for context, if New York City had the same murder rate as Flint, Michigan, the number of people murdered last year in New York would have been almost 4,000 people – instead of the actual 340 who were killed in NYC in 2015. But it’s not just street crime that makes one wonder about what is going on in Michigan. Last year, it was revealed that, once again, one of Detroit’s automakers had put profit ahead of people’s lives. General Motors learned that it had installed faulty ignition switches in many of its cars. Instead of simply fixing the problem, mid-management staff covered it up from the public. The auto industry has a history of weighing the costs of whether it’s cheaper to spend the money to fix the defect in millions of cars or to simply pay off a bunch of lawsuits filed by the victims surviving family members. Does a cynical, arrogant culture like this make it easy for a former corporate CEO, now Governor, turn a blind eye to the lead that is discovered in a municipality’s drinking water?

8. Don’t Call It “Detroit Water” — It’s the Largest Source of Fresh Drinking Water in the World. The media keeps saying Flint was using “Detroit’s water.” It is only filtered and treated at the Detroit Water Plant. The water itself comes from Lake Huron, the third largest body of fresh water in the world. It is a glacial lake formed over 10,000 years ago during the last Ice Age and it is still fed by pure underground springs. Flint is geographically the last place on Earth where one should be drinking poisoned water.

9. ALL the Children Have Been Exposed, As Have All the Adults, Including Me. That’s just a fact. If you have been in Flint anytime from April 2014 to today, and you’ve drank the water, eaten food cooked with it, washed your clothes in it, taken a shower, brushed your teeth or eaten vegetables from someone’s garden, you’ve been exposed to and ingested its toxins. When the media says “9,000 children under 6 have been exposed,” that means ALL the children have been exposed because the total number of people under the age of 6 in Flint is… 9,000! The media should just say, “all.” When they say “47 children have tested positive”, that’s just those who’ve drank the water in the last week or so. Lead enters the body and does it’s damage to the brain immediately. It doesn’t stay in the blood stream for longer than a few days and you can’t detect it after a month. So when you hear “47 children”, that’s just those with an exposure in the last 48 hours. It’s really everyone.

10. This Was Done, Like So Many Things These Days, So the Rich Could Get a Big Tax Break. When Governor Snyder took office in 2011, one of the first things he did was to get a multi-billion dollar tax break passed by the Republican legislature for the wealthy and for corporations. But with less tax revenues, that meant he had to start cutting costs. So, many things – schools, pensions, welfare, safe drinking water – were slashed. Then he invoked an executive privilege to take over cities (all of them majority black) by firing the mayors and city councils whom the local people had elected, and installing his cronies to act as “dictators” over these cities. Their mission? Cut services to save money so he could give the rich even more breaks. That’s where the idea of switching Flint to river water came from. To save $15 million! It was easy. Suspend democracy. Cut taxes for the rich. Make the poor drink toxic river water. And everybody’s happy.

WHY AREN’T MILITARY WATER PURIFICATION UNITS “ROWPU” BEING USED IN CITIES LIKE FLINT…

While I was in the military, we had water purification units called ROWPU. These are Osmosis filtering units. We could provide purified water from any source no matter how polluted and regardless of any chemical present. We could do this for up to 50,000 troops. If we needed to provide for more troops just add more ROWPU units. — Why are we spending money going into the pockets of bottled water companies, not that the people don’t need it, but the military is capable of solving this issue immediately. Is this not the purpose of the federal government in times of crisis? We sent our units to aid others overseas before, why not to Flint???!!! — This problem is not only Flint. This is going to happen in cities all over this country, because the United States has not invested in its people or its infrastructure. And both are crumbling!!! We the people have paid for the solution to this and other problems with our taxes. These resources are not being employed by leadership or better yet, the lack thereof. While we are re-spending our money to rescue our people, WE must demand using the equipment and personnel already available to resolve this crisis no matter the expense. — This is the result of negligence and incompetence, and malice. We should not be asking for the resignation of the governor, rather for his execution. This is entirely unacceptable. As a parent, if someone knowingly poisoned your child, would you not demand capital punishment? Of course you would!!!

THE ZIKA VIRUS – WHAT THEY’RE NOT SAYING…

The recent outbreak of Zika virus in Brazil is now being linked to genetically modified mosquitoes developed by the British biotech company Oxitec, which is funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Oxitec has been releasing the genetically modified Aedes mosquitoes into the wild in Brazil since 2011 to battle dengue fever. The company produces up two million genetically modified mosquitoes a week in its factory in Campinas, Brazil.

The Aedes mosquito is the world’s most dominant variety of mosquito, and the only two countries in the Americas that don’t have this mosquito are Chile and Canada. The Zika virus, which has been detected in 18 of the 26 states in Brazil, is transmitted by the Aedes mosquito.
Over 4,000 babies have now been born in Brazil with shrunken brains since November 1, 2015. Brazil normally gets approximately 150 cases of this type of birth defect each year, which means abnormal births of this type have increased by approximately 13,000 percent.

While the Brazilian government rushes to blame the Zika virus for this huge rise in abnormal birth defects, the facts remain clear. Only a small number of babies with birth defects, who died, had the virus in their brain. This means a large number of the babies who died had no Zika virus in their brain. Hard to blame Zika then, which has been around since before 1948 and has never been known to cause birth defects. In fact, Zika makes only one in five people get “mildly” sick with flu-like symptoms, with no symptoms at all in 4 out of 5 people. So why are they quick to blame a generally benign Zika virus?

In late 2014, the Brazilian minister of health announced that a new Tdap shot would be mandatory for all.

starting in 2015. Records now show that all mothers with birth defect babies received this newly formulated vaccine while pregnant. The timeliness of the Tdap vaccine and the rise in birth defects is more than just a little coincidental. The consequences of this untested vaccine is what is being swept under the rug. Which brings us once again to Bill Gates, the King of Eugenics and Vaccines.

In 2015 the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program, received a $307,000 grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to study the immune responses of pregnant women who receive the Tdap (reduced-dose acellular pertussis vaccines combined with tetanus and diphtheria toxoids) vaccine. One cannot find the raw results.

In 2011, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a recommendation that pregnant women receive the Tdap shot at 20 weeks gestation. Tdap combines the Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (whooping-cough) vaccines into a single jab. The Tdap shot has never been proven safe for use during pregnancy. In fact, Tdap is classified by the FDA as a Class C drug indicating it is NOT A SAFE CHOICE during pregnancy.

FACT: Drug companies did not test the safety and effectiveness of giving influenza or Tdap vaccine to pregnant women before the vaccines were licensed in the U.S. and there is almost no data on inflammatory or other biological responses to these vaccines that could affect pregnancy and birth outcomes. There are ingredients in influenza and pertussis containing Tdap vaccines that have not been fully evaluated for potential genotoxic or other adverse effects on the human fetus developing in the womb that may negatively affect health after birth, including aluminum adjuvants, mercury containing (Thimerosal) preservatives and many more bioactive and potentially toxic ingredients.

Is it any wonder there was a rush to place the birth defect epidemic blame elsewhere? The fact that Brazil subjected its pregnant women to such a mandatory untested vaccine is genocidal, and now they know it. They bought the kool-aid without doing the precautionary research. Or perhaps they received enough money to look the other way. Consequently, the United States is now pushing to develop a vaccine for the Zika virus. Haven’t we been down this road before with mainstream media’s Ebola scares and the predictable rush to capitalize on a lucrative vaccine for all those in fear for their life (which they already had waiting in the wings)?

To make matters worse, Brazil says they will mobilize 220,000 soldiers to fight the Zika virus. Soldiers are being ordered to go door-to-door to spray insecticides in neighborhoods to help kill mosquitoes. Toxic insecticide spraying around pregnant women and children? Are they insane? To compound the insanity further… The government says it will distribute mosquito repellent to some 400,000 pregnant women who receive cash-transfer benefits. Officials in El Salvador, Colombia and Brazil have also suggested women stop getting pregnant until the crisis has passed. Now, there’s a definite win for Bill Gates’ population control agenda. Just scare people into avoiding sex and getting pregnant. In fact, recently they suggested that the Zika virus “might be” a sexually transmitted disease, just because it was found in one man’s semen who had the Zika virus. They can try to plant the seeds of deadly fear once again, but don’t you believe a word of such nonsense.

Pressure is building on the World Health Organization to declare Zika an emergency of international concern. Under the International Health Regulations, Director General Dr. Margaret Chan can establish an emergency committee, which can green light global vaccination campaigns with experimental vaccines. Are you getting the picture?

There’s more to this story… Now, scientists in Brazil are studying genetic sequences of mosquitoes allegedly transmitting the Zika virus and other diseases to see whether changes have occurred that could have generated mutant mosquitoes. The mosquito Gates released was likely to be a long-term dream of his he had for forced birth control and forced vaccinations, which he has been working on since 2003.

the forced vaccination scenario, the mosquitoes are genetically programmed to produce the “vaccine” permanently once released into the environment, so they would not have to release new mosquitoes EVER again. Their effects would simply become part of nature.

This means that at some time in your life you and everyone else is bound to be bitten by a mosquito created by Bill Gates. God help us all!

BILL GATES & UK FINANCE MINISTER PLAN TO INVEST BILLIONS TO WIPE OUT MALARIA IN AFRICA

Things that make you go hmmmmm…!? Now why is Bill Gates so concerned about Malaria in Africa killing Africans, when blacks are being killed daily in the U.S. with poisoned lead laced water in multiple cities and states? Bill Gates has been vocal in the past about population control, and this type of financing could get the job done.

Alarms and Red flags should go off whenever vaccines become topic of conversation. I truly believe many vaccines, especially newly developed ones are not being made to save lives, but actually eradicate them. Britain’s finance minister and tech billionaire Bill Gates unveiled Monday a plan to spend billions to eradicate “the world’s deadliest killer” malaria.
Chancellor George Osborne and Gates announced $4-billion in funding over the next five years for research and to support efforts to eliminate the mosquito-borne disease, in a joint article in The Times.
“When it comes to human tragedy, no creature comes close to the devastation caused by the mosquito,” the two wrote.
“We both believe that a malaria-free world has to be one of the highest global health priorities.”
The fund would be made up of $712-million a year from Britain’s overseas aid budget for the next five years, as well as $200 million this year from The Gates Foundation, with more donations to follow.
Efforts to control the disease have made significant progress in the last 15 years, but are threatened by the spread of resistance to antimalarial drugs and to insecticide, the WHO said in its World Malaria Report 2015.
“If new insecticides are not introduced by 2020, the situation will become critical and deaths could surge,” Osborne and Gates wrote, adding that fighting diseases required collaboration between private companies, governments and charities.
“We are optimistic that in our lifetimes we can eradicate malaria and other deadly tropical diseases, and confront emerging threats, making the world a safer place for all,” the article concluded.
Microsoft co-founder Gates has turned his attention from software to fighting disease and other ills around the world with his wife, under the auspices of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The charity has disbursed more than $28 billion and provided funding for the world’s most clinically advanced malaria vaccine, Mosquirix developed by GlaxoSmithKline.
Mosquirix, or RTS,S, is the first malaria vaccine to reach Phase III clinical testing — the final stage before market approval — and the first to be assessed by regulators. It received a nod from European regulators in July.
A WHO expert panel in October recommended pilot roll-outs of the vaccine to young children in several areas of sub-Saharan Africa, before considering wider use.
The WHO is expected to follow the panel’s recommendations, which could result in Mosquirix becoming the first licensed vaccine against a parasitic disease. But a decision still lies a way off.
In April last year, the results of a years-long trial with 15,500 children in seven African countries were published in The Lancet medical journal — announcing mixed success.
Only around a third of the children who received the vaccine were protected for the full duration of the trial, researchers found.
But even so, the vaccine has the potential to prevent millions of cases and could save thousands of lives.
The new announcement comes days after the philanthropist Gates revealed plans for a $100 million scheme to cut malnutrition in Nigeria.

THE OREGON MILITIA STANDOFF COMES TO AN END…

Ammon Bundy And 7 Other Militants Arrested; 1 Killed Near Oregon Refuge

Ammon Bundy, the leader of an armed group occupying a national wildlife refuge to protest federal land policies, was among several people arrested Tuesday. Another member of the group was killed.
Ammon Bundy, leader of the group of militants that has occupied a federal wildlife refuge in Oregon for weeks, has been arrested along with seven other members of the group, including his brother, Ryan, according to federal and local law enforcement agencies.
In the wake of the arrests, police sharply boosted their presence around the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near Burns, Ore. At least 10 people are still believed to be occupying federal property, John Sepulvado of Oregon Public Broadcasting tells NPR’s Morning Edition.
Wednesday morning, the FBI and Oregon State Police announced that they have now created a “containment” area around the refuge.
Seven of the arrests took place in Oregon; one man was arrested in Arizona.

The FBI and Oregon State Police initially arrested Bundy and four other leaders of his group in an operation that began at 4:25 p.m. local time. In that operation, a member of Bundy’s group — who has now been identified by multiple news outlets as Robert “LaVoy” Finicum — was shot and killed. Another suspect was wounded and was arrested after being taken to a hospital for treatment.
Those five arrests came as the militants were traveling to a planned meeting with community members — a drive of more than an hour and a half, Sepulvado reports. They encountered a traffic stop at which Bundy and others were taken into custody.
“His lieutenants in this were also either picked up or they fled,” Sepulvado says.
Hours later, authorities made three more arrests: two in Oregon and another in Peoria, Ariz.
Reporting early Wednesday morning from the roadside near the refuge, Sepulvado says he’s seeing “convoys of federal trucks, armored trucks, and a lot of police cars behind them, zooming to the refuge on different roads.”
That’s a change from recent weeks, he says, adding that the police vehicles were closely trailed by news vans.

The Game says “show some receipts” to all the celebrities claiming to help Flint, MI during this water crisis. He provided the screenshot from his account of the 500,000 donation he made, and he’s also sending 1,000,000 bottles of water to Flint. He posted a long rant about the crisis saying, he’s currently on tour, but would normally be more hands on with something like this since his sister lives in Flint, MI. His sister actually responded by saying her brother doesn’t call her, or even know that she actually lives in Lansing, MI. *oops* Check out his speech via IG below…

IS THE DOLLAR STORE HAZARDOUS TO YOUR HEALTH…?

HealthyStuff, in collaboration with the Campaign for Healthier Solutions, released a report today about toxic chemicals found in Dollar store products. The report — A Day Late and a Dollar Short: Discount Retailers are Falling Behind on Safer Chemicals — includes testing results for 164 dollar store products such as toys, jewelry, school supplies and other household items, that found over 81% (133 of 164) contained at least one hazardous chemical above levels of concern.
The campaign also sent a letter to the CEO’s of the four largest Dollar store chains — including Family Dollar (tentatively acquired by Dollar Tree on January 22), Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and 99 Cents Only urging them to stop the sale of products with hazardous chemicals to communities of color and low-income families, who already live in more polluted areas and “food deserts,” and adopt policies that will protect both customers and their businesses. Combined these discount chains have sales totaling over $36 billion and operate more stores nationally than Walmart.
“People struggling to make ends meet are confined to shopping at the Dollar stores,” said Jose T. Bravo, National Coordinator for the Campaign for Healthier Solutions. “We are already disproportionately affected by pollution and lack of adequate medical care, and now we know we’re filling our homes and our bodies with chemicals released from Dollar store products. This needs to stop. “
“We’ve tested 1,000′s of products from dozens of retailers over the last ten years, said Jeff Gearhart, HealthyStuff Research Director. “And on average the dollar store products are some of the poorest peforming from a chemical hazard perspective. I am particularly concerned about the comparatively high percentage of products containing hazardous plasticizers. “

The chemicals of concern found in Dollar store products tested for this report include: phthalates, linked to birth defects, reduced fertility, cancer, learning disabilities, diabetes, and other health issues; polyvinyl chloride plastic (PVC or vinyl), which creates hazards throughout its life cycle and has been linked to asthma and lung effects; and toxic metals such as lead, which harms brain development, leading to learning disabilities, lower IQ, and cause other serious health impacts, especially in children.
