OSCARS SO WHITE AND CHRIS ROCK…

Published February 28, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

The Oscars are over and the highlight of the night was…..Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar for his role in The Revenant.  As for Chris Rock as host, some will say he did a FANTASTIC job with his humor and candor…while others would reduce him to Coon of the year.  I didn’t watch Oscars, I only saw clips, but from what I saw, I wasn’t too proud.  Him making a mockery of black people would absolutely go over as a success to the Oscar audience.  He poked fun at Jada Pinkett Smith for saying she was boycotting the Oscars and said it was like “him boycotting Rihanna’s panties…he wasn’t invited”.  He interviewed a woman from (a black woman) who many would call ghetto with purplish hair, and a lighter in her hand to match, about the people who won deserving it.

Then there was Stacey Dash, and her “Happy Black History Month” comment followed by a very awkward silence…more like crickets.

Yep, her face says it all about Stacey and the fact they had the nerve to put her ass up there to say that.  A true slap in the face to black folks.  Oh…but he did end the night with #BlackLivesMatter so 🙄. Thanks Chris.  I guess.

GET READY FOR THE VERY FIRST “AMERICAN BLACK FILM FESTIVAL AWARDS” CEREMONY

Published February 19, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

Kerry Washington, Taye Diggs and Octavia Spencer are expected at the first American Black Film Festival Awards — organized in response to the Oscars’ snub of black performers.
The ABFF Awards in LA on Sunday will honor Diahann Carroll, Don Cheadle, Regina King, “Creed” director Ryan Coogler and Will Packer.
Carl Weathers, who played Apollo Creed in the “Rocky” films, will present the film category. The awards show will air on BET and Centric on Tuesday.

This is what we need to recognize and honor “us” when others don’t.  We don’t need a Oscar to validate our talent and hardwork.  We need exactly this platform by us, for us, to showcase our talents and achievements.

Be sure to tune in  Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and Centric as the American Black Film Festival, BET, and Black Enterprise host ABFF Awards, an annual gala saluting excellence in motion pictures and television.

ACTOR DANNY DEVITO SPEAKS ABOUT OSCAR CONTROVERSY- SAYS “WE’RE A BUNCH OF RACIST”

Published January 23, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

It doesn’t get any better than Danny DeVito speaking the blatant truth about American racism.  While many have grown tired of hearing about #OscarsSoWhite, the topic can’t continue to be dismissed and swept under the rug.  It’s about time for America to come to grips about race issues and tackle them head on.  Racism exists. Admit it and do something about it.

Actor Don Cheadle also weighed in about the recent changes being made to the academy members to include people of color.  He referred to it as “Dealing with the symptom and not starting at the root cause of how we even got to results like this”

Definitely a very valid point that points directly to the root being racist white privilege, that too often goes unnoticed by many white people.  Watch the interview below to hear comments from both actors.

OSCARS SO WHITE SUPPORTER CHARLOTTE RAMPLING SAYS OSCAR OUTCRY FROM BLACKS IS RACIST AGAINST WHITES

Published January 22, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

Get a good look at this crazy old bat.  Looking like the old white man from “BAPs” had the nerve to fix her mouth to say it’s racism against whites to include black nominees.  Here’s more on this foolery below…

In stark contrast to fellow Oscar nominee Mark Ruffalo’s comments yesterday, Charlotte Rampling thinks that the Oscar diversity outcry is “racist against whites.”

The British screen icon, who’s up for best actress for her role in the marital drama “45 Years,” said during an interview on Friday morning with French radio station Europe 1 that the campaign to boycott the Feb. 28 ceremony is racist in and of itself.

“It is racist against whites,” she said. “One can never really know, but sometimes maybe black actors did not deserve to make the final list.”

Rampling, an Academy member, also implied that she wouldn’t support the Academy’s introduction of quotas. AMPAS may revamp Oscar categories and overhaul membership requirements as controversy grows over 2016’s list of acting nominees.

“Why classify people? We live now in countries where anyway people are more or less accepted,” the first-time Academy Award nominee said. “There are always problems: ‘He’s less handsome’ or ‘He’s too black’ or ‘He’s too white.’ There will always, always be someone who will say, ‘Oh, you’re too…’ What are we going to do? We’re going to classify all that to create thousands of little minorities everywhere?

When the interviewer said black actors feel like a minority in the film industry, Rampling replied “no comment.”

Rampling is one of 20 white actors nominated for an Oscar, which has prompted outcry about Hollywood’s growing diversity problem. Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee have said they’ll be sitting out the upcoming ceremony, while Lupita Nyong’o, George Clooney, David Oyelowo, Will Packer and others have criticized the show, which spawned the trending hashtag “Oscars So White.”

Academy President Cheryl Boone Isaacs said in a statement on Monday that the Academy “is taking dramatic steps to alter the makeup of our membership” to address the issue, while former prexy Hawk Koch called on Hollywood to push diversity in an open letter released Thursday.

Her comments are no shocker, and are typical of most privileged old white folks.  She probably hasn’t seen any of the films featuring lead black actors, yet felt the need to comment about who is or isn’t deserving.  A clear picture of the makeup of the Academy.  Screw the Oscars.  They stole P’tah and we’ll steal him back.

Audra McDonald Makes History at the Tony Awards

Audra McDonald became the first person in history to win 6 Tony Awards in acting. From starring in “Private Practice” to playing roles on Broadway, Audra McDonald has become a Broadway darling. And Sunday night at the 68th Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in NYC, she made history. This is a major win and accomplishment as no one else has won 6 Tony awards in acting, and won in each category.

Audra was obviously extremely emotional and elated about her accomplishment. She made history
And it was well deserved. Congrats to her.

Billboard Music Awards Red Carpet Highlights

I must say Kendall Jenner was a stunner on the Carpet yesterday. Kris definitely has another money maker on the scene to take over Kim Kardashian’s shine, yet still keeping it in the family.

DR. DIDDY DELIVERS COMMENCEMENT SPEECH FOR HOWARD UNIVERSITY, GETS HONORARY DOCTORATE

Published May 10, 2014 by sheezacoldpiece

Only Diddy could manage being the first Howard University drop out to receive a “honorary” Doctorate degree. Here’s more on this story…

Sean Combs has finally collected that degree from Howard University — almost a quarter century after he dropped out of the school to pursue his dreams of being a music mogul. Diddy gave the commencement speech to the Class of 2014 and received an honorary doctorate degree. Howard President Wayne Frederick finessed the fact that Combs left the university in 1990 after only two years. “We are honored to have Mr. Combs serve as our speaker,” Frederick said in the statement. “He sat in classrooms where our students sit, walked ‘The Yard,’ and like many students, his entrepreneurial spirit was sparked at Howard.”

Also slated to get honorary degrees at the May 10 event are CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer; Clive Callender, a surgery professor at Howard’s medical school (and the first doctor to perform a transplant at Howard University Hospital); jazz artist Benny Golson; and PepsiCo chairman and chief executive Indra Nooyi.
The gig puts Combs in high-flying company: past Howard graduation speakers have included Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton, Colin Powell and Maya Angelou.

Of course Diddy had plenty of friends and family there to witness this historic event….
