NEIGHBORHOOD OUTRAGED OVER CONFEDERATE FLAG DISPLAY WITH BLACK DOLL HUNG FROM A NOOSE…

Published February 17, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

East Huntingdon Township, Pennsylvania. The problem: A Confederate flag display with a black baby doll hanging from a noose with a knife in its back.
Rachel Szolek was driving through West Overton Village when she saw the racially offensive display on a fence near on someone’s property.
“We actually turned around because we had passed the house,” Szolek told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4. “And there it was, and the first thing was shock.”
-An Open Letter to Confederate Flag Defenders: Racism is Real-
Szolek took a photo of the display with her cell phone and posted the image to Facebook.
Action News 4 reporter Beau Berman got wind of the story and tracked down East Huntingdon Township’s supervisor Paul Hodgkiss.
-Quentin Tarantino: Confederate Flag is the ‘American Swastika’-
Hodgkiss said that he was “definitely against anything like that in our township.”
Officials in a nearby community admitted that they have been hearing about the display for months but could not do anything about it because the area was outside their jurisdiction.

The display was eventually taken down minutes after Berman knocked on the homeowner’s door to ask questions.

RETIRED L.A. SHERIFF LEE BACA TO PLEAD GUILTY TO PERJURY DURING FBI INVESTIGATION

Published February 10, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

Corruption lies and scandal is no stranger to the L.A.P.D.  Retired Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca will plead guilty in a downtown courtroom Wednesday to making false statements, marking a dramatic turn in the ongoing federal investigation into corruption in the Sheriff’s Department.
According to a charging document filed by federal prosecutors on Wednesday morning, Baca lied twice about his involvement in hiding an inmate from FBI agents who were investigating brutality and corruption by sheriff’s deputies in the county jails.

Baca also lied when he said he was unaware that his subordinates planned to approach an FBI special agent at her home, the document said.

Baca’s attorney, Michael Zweibeck, said his client has agreed to plead guilty to a single count as part of a deal with prosecutors under which he will spend no more than six months in prison and possibly no time at all.

The U.S. attorney’s office has agreed not pursue other charges against the former sheriff, and a federal judge must sign off on the deal, Zweibeck said.

Baca appeared in court Wednesday morning for an arraignment on the felony charge. Wearing a brown suit with a sheriff’s star on the lapel, Baca said little at the hearing other than to answer questions from the judge.

“You know what the government is claiming you did in this case?” U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick J. Walsh asked.

“Yes,” Baca responded.

After the hearing, Baca referred media queries to his attorney.

“He definitely feels bad,” Zweibeck said about his client. Asked what Baca specifically feels badly about, the attorney said: “He feels bad about a lot of things.”

Zweibeck said that federal sentencing guidelines specify up to six months in prison for making a false statement, but that Baca could also be sentenced to probation and not serve any time behind bars.
“He is ready for whatever outcome is deemed appropriate by the court,” Zweibeck said.
Zweibeck said negotiations with prosecutors began in earnest five days ago, when it became clear that they were prepared to charge Baca.
“It’s time to put this behind him,” Zweibeck said. Baca “doesn’t want the men and women of the Sheriff’s Department to be under this cloud.”
Baca is expected to appear in another courtroom Wednesday afternoon to enter his plea.
Baca, who ran the department for more than 15 years, retired in 2014 amid an FBI probe into misconduct and abuse by deputies in the county’s jail system. So far, more than a dozen former sheriff’s officials have been convicted as a result of the wide-ranging investigation, which began more than five years ago.

No surprise here since the L.A.P.D. has a very long history of corruption and scandal which usually gets swept under the rug.  As usual they get a slap on the wrist, and go back to there merry lives to enjoy their hefty pensions.  Justice is rarely properly served when law enforcement is involved.

BEYONCÉ HAS CREATED CONTROVERSY WITH HER SUPERBOWL PERFORMANCE AND NEW SONG “FORMATION”

Published February 8, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

Ooooooh Queen Bey got them folks UPSET!  People are calling for boycotts of Beyoncé and the SuperBowl for allowing her to perform her new song “Formation”.   The video has many subliminal messages which pertain to black issues in America.

Sadly, some people just can’t handle the truth, or a black woman who is proud of her heritage.  They refuse to be tolerant of a person who speaks up against injustices happening to minorities, even if it’s a subliminal message in a video.

For Chicago Code Blue among others to suggest that this is “Anti-Police Music” is beyond reaching.  A simple message saying “Stop shooting us” written on a wall, or a drowning police car referencing Hurricane Katrina, does not translate into Anti-Police.  People choose to turn this into something negative to avoid to true message of injustice that needs to be addressed.

I thank Beyoncé for her bravery with this self directed video.  Speaking up for Your people, and against injustice takes guts.  I really think Solange is starting to rub off on the Queen Bey…lol.  We need more of this from the affluent African American in America.

“SUPER SOAKER” CREATOR RECEIVED ALMOST 73 MILLION IN UNPAID ROYALTIES FROM HASBRO…

Published February 5, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

Did you know Mr. Lonnie Johnson created the “Super soaker” gun? Arguably the best water gun ever made.  It’s a shame it took years for this man to receive his funds off of his invention, yet not a shocker since the corporate hounds are known for lying, cheating, and scheming.  Here’s the story about this below…..
The Atlanta-based company behind the Super Soaker water gun and Nerf toy guns has been awarded nearly $73 million in royalties from toymaker Hasbro Inc., according to the law firm King & Spalding.

Johnson Research and Development Co. and founder Lonnie Johnson have been in a royalty dispute with Hasbro since February, when the company filed a claim against the giant toy company. According to King & Spalding, which along with the A. Leigh Baier P.C. law firm represented Johnson, Hasbro underpaid royalties for the Nerf line toys from 2007 to 2012.

“In the arbitration we got everything we asked for,” said Atlanta attorney Leigh Baier. “The arbitrator ruled totally in Lonnie’s favor.” The attorney also said Johnson “is very pleased” with the outcome.

Johnson could not be reached for comment Wednesday, nor could Pawtucket, RI.-based Hasbro.

The arbitration agreement resolves a 2001 inventors dispute in which Hasbro agreed to pay Johnson royalties for products covered by his Nerf line of toys, specifically the N-Strike and Dart Tag brands, King & Spalding attorney Ben Easterlin said.

In a separate breach of contract suit filed in U.S. District Court in Atlanta in February, Johnson accuses Hasbro of violating a 1996 agreement to pay him Super Soaker royalties of 2 percent for “three-dimensional products” based on the appearance of the toy and 1 percent for “two-dimensional visual representations.”

The suit says Hasbro sold water guns that were “visually similar and based upon the appearance of Super Soaker water guns that incorporate Johnson’s technology.” Johnson also wanted the court to force Hasbro to open its books to determine sales of Super Soaker products from 2006 to 2012.

Johnson, a nuclear engineer, Tuskegee University Ph.D. and former NASA scientist, founded his company in 1989. It was the same year he first licensed the Super Soaker, which generated more than $200 million in retail sales two years later, the company said. The toy was licensed to Larami Corp., which was later purchased by Hasbro.

Johnson holds more than 80 patents, with more than 20 pending, the company said, which said sales of the Super Soaker have approached nearly $1 billion.

As an Alabama high school senior, Johnson finished building a remote-controlled robot with a reel-to-reel tape player for a brain and jukebox solenoids controlling its pneumatic limbs, according to a 2008 profile in the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

After graduating from Tuskegee he joined the Air Force, worked at the Air Force Weapons Laboratory at Sandia, worked for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab on the Galileo mission to Jupiter and the Mars Observer project, among others. He also helped design the Cassini robot probe that flew 740 million miles to Saturn

.

He moved to Atlanta in 1990 before his Super Soaker invention made him wealthy. His inventions have included rechargeable battery technology and thermodynamic energy conversion technology.

THE UNITED NATIONS IS CONCERNED ABOUT THE WAY BLACKS IN AMERICA ARE TREATED….

Published February 5, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

– We encourage the US government to elaborate a National Action Plan for Racial Justice to fully implement the International Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (ICERD) and comprehensively address racism affecting African Americans. – See more at: http://www.ohchr.org/EN/NewsEvents/Pages/DisplayNews.aspx?NewsID=17000&LangID=E#sthash.9lHo51Ua.dpuf

It’s a relief to know the world is paying attention to black strife in America.  It’s extremely sad that after so many years in this country, so many tears and blood shed to build it, that blacks are still marginalized in America.  The United Nations took the time to pen a lengthy letter with observations and facts happening to blacks in the United States.

The statement comes from the United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent. It listed several concerns that highlighted racial disparities such as police brutality, mass incarceration and the school-to-prison pipeline.

INMATE STAFFED CALL CENTERS – THE NEW SLAVES

Published February 1, 2016 by sheezacoldpiece

Did you know that many well known American companies use inmates in their call centers.  Imagine calling AT&T and speaking with an inmate to assist you.  9 times out of 10 you already have.  I call this the new slave era. These inmates are paid up to .50 cents an hour for their labor, and no they don’t have a choice.  It’s either you work or face possibly more time.  Sounds like slavery to me.  All except the .50 cent pay per hour, but, guess what a tax paying citizen would make? I’m guessing at least minimum wage, and .50 cents is laughable compared to that.  Here’s the details below from an article I read about inmate call centers and why they exist.  Prison for profit. The mass incarceration of black people in America has put a new face on slave labor.

Via MSNBC

When you call a company or government agency for help, there’s a good chance the person on the other end of the line is a prison inmate.
The federal government calls it “the best-kept secret in outsourcing” — providing inmates to staff call centers and other services in both the private and public sectors.
The U.S. government, through a 75-year-old program called Federal Prison Industries, makes about $750 million a year providing prison labor, federal records show. The great majority of those contracts are with other federal agencies for services as diverse as laundry, construction, data conversion and manufacture of emergency equipment.

But the program also markets itself to businesses under a different name, Unicor, providing commercial market and product-related services. Unicor made about $10 million from “other agencies and customers” in the first six months of fiscal year 2011 (the most recent period for which official figures are available), according to an msnbc.com analysis of its sales records.

Justice Department and the U.S. Bureau of Prisons don’t break down which companies they do business with. But Unicor said inmates provide private call center service, including data review and sales lead generation, for “some of the top companies in America” under a federal mandate to help companies repatriate jobs they have outsourced overseas.
In a fact sheet, Unicor asserts that prisoners in the program are less likely to re-offend and are better trained for full-time work upon release. All revenue goes back into the program, which “operates at no cost to the taxpayer,” it says.
The idea has filtered down to some of the states, among them Georgia, Arizona and New York.
When New York residents call the Department of Motor Vehicles, for example, they might get an inmate at Greene Correctional Institution in Coxsackie, near Albany, or at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women near White Plains, on the border with Connecticut.
“Obviously, it saves taxpayer dollars,” Brian Fischer, commissioner of the state Corrections and Community Supervision Department, told NBC station WNYT of Albany. “Number two, it provides what we call a transferable skill.”
Besides saving the state money, said Elizabeth Glazer, the state’s deputy secretary for public safety, the program is “an investment in our state’s overall safety.”

“When we help offenders build the workforce skills necessary to find viable employment after incarceration, we lessen the chances they will reoffend and end up back in the state’s prison system,” she said.
The corrections department acknowledged that callers aren’t told they’re talking to a state prisoner. But they stressed that callers are protected — no personal information is displayed to the prisoners, who don’t have access to computers, officials said.
In the private sector, states usually partner with business-to-business firms to run the services — the companies provide the equipment and facilities, and the state provides the labor. One such firm is Televerde, a Phoenix company that partners with the Arizona prison system to provide marketing services for major companies that have included Hitachi and Microsoft.
In a marketing paper, Microsoft says companies like Televerde “can reduce the burden on corporate marketing and local marketing teams can have more meaningful interactions with their customers.” (Msnbc.com is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC News.)
For inmates, the appeal isn’t the pay, which can be as low as 50 cents an hour. It’s the training and the opportunity: “A lot of times, we need to feel like we are appreciated, and it builds self-esteem,” John Howard of Brooklyn, N.Y., an inmate at Greene, told WNYT.

“It allows me the opportunity to speak to different people of different nationalities, regardless of what ethnicity, and it makes me feel like ‘Wow, I can do better,'” he said.
Read the original story at WNYT.com
But Danny Donohue president of the New York Civil Service Employees Association, criticized the program for prioritizing marketable skills for prisoners over providing jobs to “law-abiding citizens.”
It’s “a bad idea generally and even worse considering the current economy,” Donohue said.

You can dress it up nicely to mask the true ugly face of this oppression, yet the bottom line is these are jobs that could and should be given to law abiding citizens.  This is all for profit while the majority of these companies black ball these inmates upon their release from working due to prior offenses, yet while they’re behind bars making pennies on the dollar they’re somehow eligible to to work for them.  It’s wrong.
